Camille Blatrix
Camille Blatrix’s sculptures, which he refers to as “emotional objects,” move tenuously between affective and descriptive registers. Constructed with a highly technical precision and subverted by more instinctive intrusions, his works bring together wood, resin, and aluminum through advanced machinery and technical processes such as 3D modelling and wood marquetry.
Camille Blatrix (b. 1984, France) lives and works in Paris. Recent solo exhibitions include presentations at Balice Hertling, Paris (2022, 2017, 2016, 2014); Centre d’Art Contemporain du Synagogue de Delme, Delme (2021); Kunsthalle Basel, Basel (2020); Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2019); and CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art, San Francisco (2016), among others. His work has also been presented at Halle Für Kunst Steiermark, Graz (2021); the Renaissance Society, Chicago (2021); Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, St. Gallen (2020); Fri Art Kunsthalle, Fribourg (2019); Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris – Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2019); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2018, 2015); Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2018, 2016), among others.
Blatrix graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2011, the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, in 2010, and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Strasbourg, in 2006. In 2014, he was awarded the Ricard Foundation Prize.
