Antonio López

Biography

Lopez's work engages with the polemics of pictorial representation in the light of human mobility. The perpetual reenactment and re-staging of the past and the production-reception cycles of image making. Through the use of paintings, drawings, video and writing he generates images that act as transitional objects between material accumulation and personal loss.

 
Antonio López (b. 1993, Quito, Ecuador) currently lives and works between Frankfurt am Main and Quito. Recent solo exhibitions include Balice Hertling (Paris, 2025), Louche Ops (Berlin, 2024) and  ECHO (Cologne, 2023) and Rudimento (Quito, 2021).  Group exhibitions featuring his work include Larder (Los Angeles, 2023), fffriedrich (Frankfurt am Main, 2023) and zaza (Milan, 2023). He holds a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2017) and an MA from Städelschule, Class Monika Baer (2024). 

 

In 2019 he co-founded Nave, an artist-run residency program based in Quito - Ecuador, the program aimed to created a lasting international platform bridging Ecuadorian practices with those of abroad. Exhibitions, talks, and events where organised in participation with a multidisciplinary audience. Earlier in 2018 he started and co-directed New Works an artist run project space in Chicago.
