Whilst watching Gianfranco Rosi's "Pompei, Sotto le nuvole", one encounters a scene in which an archaeologist holds a small statuette, often identified as the Indian goddess Lakshmi and found in a Pompeian home. Reflecting on the uncertain journey that brought it so far from its origins, she notes how its resemblance to Venus and their shared symbolism of fertility reveals a broader pattern of mother-deities moving across regions while retaining an enduring generative power. As this surprising object is examined, the exhibition looks at motherhood as a shifting set of relations-survival, regeneration, and continuity-where death and fertility, care and constraint exist in fragile tension.
